5 Reasons Why I Don’t Want to Post

Today I want to tell you why I don't feel like writing a post. I'll start at the least important reason and work my way up. I have great excuses: I don't feel very creative right now. It takes a lot of effort for me to push ideas out, develop them, edit the heck out of them and then publish them. The words are one thing but even my favourite part - the images, takes so much energy. I am just not feeling it right now. I think all the creative bones in my body have decalcified since the year started. My house is really messy. Any time I sit down to write I feel guilty about what I should be doing instead. Want to know a really terrible secret? My Christmas tree is still up. ( It's just early for next year I told my husband. ) Housework is not high up on my priority list. As a matter of fact I have this sign up on my front door as a warning. I tell people if they want to come visit me they can show up at any time and if they want to visit my house they…

5 intentions of the year www.eclecticsoapbox.com

5 of my “Intentions” for Me this year

Intentions are less threatening & more 'verb-like' than 'resolutions'. When you say 'I intend to do something,' it's more like a statement, or a prediction, something you have already worked the details out in your head for. It's visualized. If I say 'resolutions,' it feels negative to me. It's as if I've resolved to do something I really don't want to do. But I have to do it anyway. I'm being forced. Resolutions, in my mind, are vague and come from someone else. Intentions, on the other hand, come from me. I am in control. I choose what I will do. This year it is my 'intention' to do many things this year including the following: Move more - with the kids, the husband, the friends, the dogs. With myself and my thoughts. I "intend" to feel muscles ache that I haven't felt in a long time. And not just from walking around the block. This is a big one for me. But I will do it. I have to. Might be time to try ultimate frisbee again - haha no way. But I will go swimming more.  Enjoy more quantities and varieties of plants in my food. Starting with avocados. Yep - I'm…

My Favourite Musicians

I'm not sure at all how to decide who my favourite musicians are. Do I go by the vinyl I collected in the day? Or what is on my iTunes? Or what I hum in my head all the time? This is very tough to say. Music has always had a dramatic place in my life. They have helped me move through different emotional states, identify my feelings and move along. I identified songs that were significant to me at some part of my life last year. They were linked to deeply personal situations. Now though there are so many songs and bands that I love hearing. I can't pick five only. It's just not possible. So for the purposes of this post I will select 5 of my 'favourites'. Let's start with that. These are the ones that come to mind right away with artwork from my own personal collection of albums: 1.0 U2 2.0 Eminem  musicians 3.0 BonJovi 4.0 Eagles 5.0 Sade   Check out these fantastic Canadian bloggers and their FiveOnFriday posts! Treasure Hunting

There are few things as exciting to me as walking into a thrift shop with an hour or so of free time. It's retail therapy at it best. $20, an empty shopping cart and a whole world of mysterious possibilities. There's treasures to be had m'hearty! There's so many different types of second hand shops to choose from these days. You've got the 'big box' stores like Value Village, Goodwill Industries, and the Salvation Army Thrift Stores on the one side and the tons of little ones for seemingly every charity and church known on the other. Prices, cleanliness, store organization and quality seem to vary quite a lot. The rule of thumb is "Love it or leave it." Here's the process: scan as you go, put it in your cart if you think you can't live without it, give it a thorough going over before you make your final decision. Do not get things that are broken, have armpit or other mystery stains or odours, chips, or missing pieces. Unless you are looking for exactly that. My husband would also like to suggest that you stay away from baskets. He seems to think they are like a bunny family that keeps growing and…

Best Roomies Ever

Last week I went to an amazing social media/blogger conference at Blue Mountain. It was, as I expected, a highly educational and entertaining event. I made so many new contacts and was able to see my online blogger friends in person. As a bonus, I was able to get to know a few ladies much better by sharing a suite at Blue Mountain Mosaic Resort. The ladies, and actually a couple of men, made this conference my favourite ever. Allow me to introduce them: Selena the Dip Diva found at Selena's Flavour Fusion Selena is a warm, funny and intelligent woman who is also an incredible cook. What clever planning to share a room with a foodie who was going on a gourmet walk around Thornbury! Whenever I see Selena I am aware of a feeling of positive energy. She is truly one of the good ones. 2. Jaymi at the Modern Housewife and Baby! Jaymi and the cutest Blissdom baby every - conceived of pure Blissdom love last year! Another friendly warm person, Jaymi is funny, energetic and very generous with advice to newbie bloggers like me. This lady cracks me up all the time. So quick with the comebacks and a very positive person…

Thankful Life

It's the weekend in Canada when we stop and appreciate everything we are grateful for. I am grateful for many things including, but not limited to: 1. Health I am alive, I can still love, play, work. I have what so many don't. I read an amazing, profound quote recently that said:   2. My Family Hubs and Things 1&2   3. My furbabies Monty and Mazey   4. The internet My internet is not blocked, or restricted and I cannot be arrested for using it in this country, unlike others elsewhere.   5. Canada I love this country. It is the best one for me.   What are you grateful for? Celebrate the Chill – #FiveonFriday

Since we've just welcomed my favourite season of the year this week, I thought I'd share some of the best parts of it - according to me. #1 Crisp Air It's that magic time between turning off the a/c and turning on the furnace. I love sleeping with the windows wide open. The cool air kills most of what ails my allergies. The Clean crisp air freshens my lungs and all the rooms in the house. To have the air flowing through from front to back is just so lovely. Everything smells better when it's cooler out. I love walking in the woods when the leaves start to come down. The colours are miraculous. chill #2 Pumpkin Spice EVERYTHING Donuts, muffins, pies, cakes, coffees, air fresheners... Seriously - who doesn't associate this with the fall? It gets me thinking of Thanksgiving, halloween and soon Christmas. I need to find pumpkin spice fudge next - or maybe I'll just make my own? Of course the harvesting that goes on in the fall is epic. In my area, pumpkins, corn, apples oh my. The cider starts to flow. The apple wine is prepared. This year our raspberry bushes are totally showing off…
