My Santa Suspicions

Here is a random memory from my childhood you might be able to relate to: My bedroom was at the end of the hall directly down from the living room. I remember waking up Christmas Eve after everyone had gone to sleep to hear some rustling noises in the living room - it was quite the 'a clatter'. There was a faint glow coming under my door too.   I held my breath and could hear the clunky sounds from the roof that must have been the reindeer hooves. I was so scared Santa would find out I was awake and then I wouldn't be able to have any presents. I was also worried he wouldn't see the cookies and milk. I hid my head under the blankets and almost passed out from lack of air. I was so excited! I heard the door open. Then the sound of a coat falling to the floor. Then rustle, rustle, crinkle, snap. Tree sounds of paper scratching along the branches. And maybe a bell. Eventually I went back to sleep - passed out most likely. The next morning the room was full of brightly wrapped packages stacked in four 'even' piles around the tree. Some…

Ladybug Ladybug Fly Away Home

Your house is one fire, your children are alone.... It seems to be that time of the year when I'm spotting Ladybugs everywhere. I saw a toddler with Ladybug boots on today and decided I needed to share with everyone. Here are the pictures of lady bugs I've collected very recently: They say Ladybugs only eat aphids but this guys surely seemed to be enjoying this blueberry. Having a snack on my blueberry. I have this glass Ladybug attached to my screen door to warn people that it's open. We've had one to many people march through the open door only to discover it isn't open. This guy is cute too Today, I heard the sound of something smashing itself into my window and found a sad little ladybug trying to get outside. He would fly into the 'clouds', hit the window, flutter his wings to flip off his back and fly right back into the window again. I felt sorry for him and managed to get him outside without that stinky ladybug smell getting on my hands. I just love this picture I took of him on a pumpkin. What a cooperative model. This one says "Orange is the new…

Guilty Pleasure #1

Awesome and Easy Facebook Tip Alert! SaveAt this time of year I find I am so tempted to just sit down and read all the very interesting posts on Facebook. Losing oneself in Facebook is a hobby, or guilty pleasure, shared by many. There are SO MANY awesome posts I want to read but if I can't when I see them I fear I'll lose them forever. I'll admit I've copied and pasted links into my notepad to be read for later. Recently, Facebook found a solution to this problem. They gave us a 'Save' button. Yahoo!  Step 1: If you want to save a post for later, (and let's face it who doesn't want to read every one of the 20 + Slow Cooker Recipes Kids Love?) find the chevron in the top right hand corner of the post and click. (This will be an option for the posts that have expandable content in it. If it isn't an option you can't save it.) Select the 'Save' option and you are good to go.   Step 2: If you want to know where to find your saved posts, look under your profile photo under all the groups you are part of.   Step…

Playful Postcards

Sometimes, you just have to make things more interesting by adding a picture. Here are few I had fun putting together: This one was the result of our visit to the Niagara Falls Butterfly Conservatory. It is a favourite place for me. When we brought our kids along when the were young things, Thing 2 decided she was afraid of the lovely flutterers. This last time, she enjoyed it just as much as I did. So Keep Calm and marvel at the beauty in nature. This admission is about my love of all things cheesie. Surely I am not alone here? You understand - I know you do. It was a long winter last year. I didn't think it was as bad as I kept hearing but maybe that is because I've had more experiences with winters than many people. Who knows. All I know is that sometimes, the sky can be so clear and the air so crisp that it takes my breath away . http://youtu.be/KfIGa_9Pouo (OK I know this is corny but I was IN LOVE with this man who was my SOUL MATE when I was 11. Didn't he guest star on CHIPS at one point?) Back to…

I was on an Oprah Winfrey Network Reality TV Show – True Story!

And just like that, our lives were changed forever... The Oprah Winfrey Network's Second Season of Million Dollar Neighbourhood. None of us could have anticipated just how hard it would end up being. Imagine the chaos generated in putting 100 families from different backgrounds, races, economic status, sexual orientations, and opinions together for ten weeks. The expectation was that this composition of families would all struggle together to achieve weekly personal, financial and community goals. For ten weeks we were given seemingly impossible challenges and told they had to be completed within six days. Simultaneously, each family was required to increase their personal ‘Net Worth’ by $1000 per week. Community and personal challenges included such crazy schemes as: ·     A 100 family yard sale; ·     A food sales competition with two celebrity chefs; ·     Surrendering your vehicle; ·     Finding hidden money in piggy banks, re-negotiating mortgage rates; ·     Cancelling credit cards and non-essential services; ·     Selling valuables; ·     Obtaining overtime at work, or a new job, or an upgraded job; ·     Reuniting a family separated for almost two decades from the other side of the planet; ·     Improving the status and value of your home; ·     Surrendering your vices… In…
