Have you ever been watching something on your phone, or other device in public and felt like you weren’t the only one? It seems that 45% of us have noticed someone ‘backseat bingeing’, and some were actually embarrassed about what they were watching. I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to watch anything in public that would make me feel embarrassed. Especially since in a recent survey conducted by SurveyMonkey, it was discovered that 27% of the ‘snoopers’ have actually interrupted the viewer to start a conversation about it! This cracks me up.
When I travel I like to take something with me for distraction including Netflix downloads. It turns out with 2.4 billion smartphone users globally, I am not alone in this. I have laughed, jumped in surprise and cried over my favourite book so it comes as no surprise that I do this with shows and movies now too.
I guess you can’t always predict what shows might have scenes that could embarrass you, that are – shall we say, a bit risqué. Or maybe you can. I wouldn’t be comfortable watching a show like Orange is the New Black or Gerald’s Game beside Grandma on the Go Train.
Anyway, riding on public transit is always a good time to catch up and if you want to play it safe there are lots of options. I LOVE Cosmos – a Spacetime Odyssey. This series blows my mind with Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson presenting new revelations about time and space. Check it out. Or my new favourite – the Crown.
There are so many choices on Netflix – enough to pick your perfect comfort level for public viewing – and possibly sharing too!
