How do you feel about giving those “hard to shop for” young adults in your life cash for every Christmas? Are you a last minute shopper? Do you need some new ideas? Well have I got a great list for you!
I have three young adults in my life and I always feel so disappointed when it’s time to cross them off the list and all they ask me for is money. Sure it’s the most convenient and quickest thing to wrap but come on – it’s such a cop out. It makes me feel like I don’t know them well enough to get them something good. I don’t buy many gifts for Christmas these days but I sure as heck think hard about what a recipient would like, find useful and appreciate the most. gift
Two of the three young adults in my life live in dorms far away from home. One goes to university, the other to college. I like the idea of giving them something that will keep on giving all year round. A special delivery that arrives in the mail once a month.
How exciting to be away and receive a package the old fashioned way, knowing that someone is thinking of you back home. There are so many options available! And the best part? Shipping is WAY LESS than I’d pay if I had to collect and mail all this stuff myself every month. Trust me, I’ve tried.
Subscription boxes are very popular right now and there’s one for everyone.
How it works:
You can chose to give a one month gift, multiple months or the year. Basically you set up an account with a credit card and you are billed once or monthly – payment options vary. There is a fee for the box and sometimes one for shipping too. Box prices usually range from $10 to $40 a month, depending on what it is. ( Although I have a surprisingly low cost one down there for $3.50! )
In this review I will be looking at boxes appropriate for the young adults and students in my life. ( To be honest my husband and I would love to receive any of these too! )
Gift ideas they will LOVE:
If the male or female on your list loves to smell good, this is the box for them. It’s a fabulous concept and I am in love with it. They will receive three vials of fragrance each month specific to their preferences. The fragrances are from unique and dynamic perfumers. Very classy! Prices range from $15 to $18 per month.

If your gift recipient likes to have beautiful nails but not go to the trouble of applying nail polish every few days, this is the perfect gift for them. Jamberry has tons of amazing designs with less chemicals involved. Many options are available from solid colours to designs. Even better, they now have a subscription option! Two sets of nail wraps and tools will be delivered monthly from $30 to $32! Your recipient can select from three patterns each month.

My kid does not get out to the drugstore very often. It’s off campus and he’s too busy most days. This monthly subscription would be perfect for him since he will have fresh sets of blades delivered monthly. You can’t buy them in the store for these prices. $3.50, $6.50 or $9.50 per month – including shipping and handling. Definitely fits into a student budget, or gifting budget.

For $10 a month you can send a new bag of goodies to your recipient. Makeup and skin care products with a little bag each time. How cute is that!?

For $17.95 a month, including shipping, this Canadian company will send you coffee roasted the same day it is shipped. Your gift recipient can select their beans or you can ‘be surprised’. Students tend to make caffeine an important part of their day so keep this idea in mind!

Oh Em Gee this is a good one! I want to make sure my kid and nephew are eating healthy so this is the perfect gift for them that will also remind them of me! A nice break from cafeteria food and it’ll ensure they eat something in the morning. I love oatmeal and these two packages are specially prepared each month and shipped out for $20 including shipping. This month’s blends are pineapple, cashews and 70% dark chocolate, and spiced pecans, ginger and orange. Doesn’t that sound great!?

The Last Word:
These are just a few of the options available to you for your last minute gifts. I have barely scratched the surface with what is out there. You can also find subscriptions for underwear, soap, letter writing kits, fashion accessories, bubble bath, ‘survival’ kits, alcohol, craft packages, female ‘time of the month’ hygiene care packs, cell phone cases, watches, all sorts of student combo kits. Whatever you can think of – it’s probably out there.
Personally, I think the best option would be to pick a different box for each month of the year. How much fun would that be?
I hope this guide has encouraged you to embrace your last minute shopping urges and also be more adventurous than just giving cash. Let’s put the ‘I’ back in ‘gifting’.
Hope you have an eclectic Christmas or holiday season!
