Lacy Angel Wings Christmas Ornament

DIY Cuteness At this time of the year people start looking for crafts that are unique and adorable. Have I got the perfect idea for you!  You can use these on your tree, on gifts, or as gifts. I think they'd make lovely placeholders too. To make them you need pipe cleaners, wood beads, lace with a straight edge and a seam on one side. Also a fine tipped marker and something to hang them with. I added faces to the wood beads before I put them together in case I messed it up. You can pick whatever colour of…

Lacy Angel Wings Ornament

DIY Christmas Ornament My daughter received something like this lovely little angel ornament long ago when she was in Junior Kindergarten. Since then, we have modified it to look even more cute. You can use these on your tree, on gifts, or as gifts. I think they'd make lovely placeholders too. To make them you need pipe cleaners, wood beads, lace with a straight edge and a seam on one side. Chocolate Pretzels!

This is a neat little treat with any size of pretzels that you can make with every seasonal colour. Today we are going to use Christmas colours. My very good friend Micheline Kerswell, taught me how to make these.  We used to get the kids together at Christmas break to do up hundreds of these pretzels when they were younger. Micheline is from a traditional French Canadian family and they have some amazing recipes and I've been fortunate enough to try many of them and even more fortunate to learn the secrets of how they are made.  I'll use images to illustrate…

Building A Better Wish List

Do you ever feel like Christmas gift giving is going over the top? For me it got to the point where I felt like I was buying and buying and buying but it was not satisfying. It felt hollow to just pile on another present that is nice but not really necessary.  Plus, how many gifts do your kids really use after they open them anyway? My son has a bunch of things in a bag from 2 years ago that he hasn't even gone through since he unwrapped them and took them up to his room.  It makes me sad thinking about…

Last Minute Stocking Stuffers

In an earlier post here, I explained our new idea family plan for this Christmas gift giving to ensure the kids get useful and meaningful gifts that we think will be more appreciated than the old style of 'bulk' gifting. It's all about quality over quantity. In this post I want to explain a few cool ideas for stocking stuffers - for teens and adults too. These items can be purchased all across Canada. PLUS, at the end you will see a very awesome giveaway for some stocking stuffers too.  Last Minute Stocking Stuffer Giveaway! Both of our kids are teens and…

Whatever Makes You Happy

Happy I read a fantastic post a couple of years ago by Jennifer Powell about celebrating something when YOU want to - not when the calendar says you HAVE to. (Moveable Feast) I really feel like I can do this now without feeling guilty. Happy  My husband and I have rescheduled celebrations in the past because we haven't had a choice and always felt it was a let down to people. Not to mention the resentment it has generated. But, as this blogger points out, the purpose of the celebrations, or special meals, is to celebrate THE PEOPLE. I'm a flexible person and I don't care when…

Radiant Glow Facial Scrub

Pimples have no respect. Whether you are getting married, going for a job interview or celebrating your birthday it is irrelevant. It also doesn't matter if you are 16 or 48. My daughter and I both get them which is a rip off for me - I thought I traded in old age for pimples. I wonder what is the most likely cause - stress, goodies, or late nights?  scrub In an effort to find a 'natural' treatment for our spots, I did a little research into recipes I could make at home. I found a DIY recipe book on Well.ca. I like…

My Santa Suspicions

Here is a random memory from my childhood you might be able to relate to: My bedroom was at the end of the hall directly down from the living room. I remember waking up Christmas Eve after everyone had gone to sleep to hear some rustling noises in the living room - it was quite the 'a clatter'. There was a faint glow coming under my door too.   I held my breath and could hear the clunky sounds from the roof that must have been the reindeer hooves. I was so scared Santa would find out I was awake and…

Last Minute Gift Ideas Students Won’t Actually Hate

How do you feel about giving those "hard to shop for" young adults in your life cash for every Christmas? Are you a last minute shopper? Do you need some new ideas? Well have I got a great list for you! I have three young adults in my life and I always feel so disappointed when it's time to cross them off the list and all they ask me for is money. Sure it's the most convenient and quickest thing to wrap but come on - it's such a cop out. It makes me feel like I don't know them well enough…

Give the “Gift of Hope” this Christmas Season!

Thank you for having me back on as a guest poster, Carin. Holiday season is upon us now that it is officially November! Invites to Holiday corporate parties and festive get togethers are already on their way. If you are planning to do a 'Secret Santa' with your co-workers and/or family this year, why not consider something different .... like donating to a special cause as a group.  Instead of giving "Sue" another funny mug or "Ted" a set of wacky plaid socks, consider making a donation in their name or in your group's name. Whether your group is your…
