Early Memories

A long time ago - the beginning of time for me anyway, I met an amazing and powerful woman with crazy ideas that filled my head with ways of thinking outside of the box. She had a different way of seeing things that some might call brilliant, odd or creative but I prefer to think of as eclectic. mum Most people call her Lynn, Counsellor Silverton, or if they are really brave, Evelyn. I prefer to call her Mum.  My mum has been many things in her life including an artist, nurse, airline stewardess, x-ray technician, legal secretary, office manager,…

Retro Memories

I was just thinking about how when I was a kid, we used a phone that was chunky, had a dial, and was permanently attached to a wall in my house. "Hearts warmed through frost and snow, will be the ones to see and…

My Favourite Musicians

I'm not sure at all how to decide who my favourite musicians are. Do I go by the vinyl I collected in the day? Or what is on my iTunes? Or what I hum in my head all the time? This is very tough to say. Music has always had a dramatic place in my life. They have helped me move through different emotional states, identify my feelings and move along. I identified songs that were significant to me at some part of my life last year. They were linked to deeply personal situations. Now though there are so many songs and bands that I…

Name that Tune in Three Notes

I was asked to pick the three most important songs in my life - I find it very challenging to pick only three. Music has always helped me define my feelings be it sadness, joy, grief, love… Sometimes it’s a matter of searching for just the right track. Other times the music comes to me as if by magic and finds that exact right feeling when I least expect it. Name that tune... It depends on the situation really. When I was 20, my retinas detached. I ended up having two different types of surgery on my eyes to fix them. (Whew see…
