Travelling the Adult Way

travelling

We just came home from an amazing vacation in Mexico. Full of things to do, see, smell and taste, my husband and I were enthralled with it all – including the margaritas. We had not flown anywhere without the kids in 22 years. It was epic.

travellingWe snorkelled in the Caribbean Sea in Cozumel, explored the grounds of 7000 year old pyramids in the Yucatan, and swam in two natural cenotes near Playa Del Carmen, amongst other things.

travellingMy brother and sister in law hosted our visit and organized the exciting site seeing. My brother was an excellent tour guide and made sure our whole visit was well organized.

Even our flights down and back were fun. We loaded up the iPad with some Netflix movies and shows before we left home.

travellingOur first movie, one of our favourites, Guardians of the Galaxy took up half the flight followed by the last couple of episodes of Supernatural from season 12. (Can you believe it is still going?)

On the way back I had plans to re-watch some of the Crown in anticipation of season 2 coming out on December 8th but I was too tired. My husband caught up on couple episodes of Black Mirror that he’d missed instead.

It was great to not have to be tied in to the inflight movies and chatter around us – nice to have this flexibility that helped the time ‘fly’. Keep this idea in mind the next time you fly away and you’ll be set – Netflix downloads aren’t only for the kids!

Oh yes – this particular part of Mexico never has earthquakes – I believe that is what you were worried about? If you have a look at the fault lines you’ll see they are nowhere near Playa Del Carmen. Also, in this area we learned from the moment we were in the taxi heading away from the airport that tourists are the priority since tourism is their main business. We attended a soccer game at night and walked all over in the night and didn’t ever feel concerned for our safety. Other than our own shenanigans, we were perfectly safe. 🙂
